Football violence brothers banned

been hit with two forms of disciplinary action -- one by their club and one by the Bermuda Football Association.

While the BFA are reluctant to reveal the fines levied by their committee at this stage, it is known that the club suspended Ryan for an indefinite period, while Wendell received a three-game ban.

The two were found guilty of violent conduct during a First Division game against Vasco at BAA on February 7 -- both attacking Vasco forward Dwight Basden.

BFA General Secretary David Sabir said that he was aware of the swift action taken by the club.

"The BFA is pleased that Devonshire Recreation has viewed the incident as being serious. This is the message that our executive committee has been trying to get out to the clubs .. . that they have to take a stand themselves against unruly behaviour of their players and their fans,'' said Sabir.

The fact that the club beat the BFA to the punch in handing out bans does not mean that the BFA have been hesitant in dealing with the matter, according to Sabir.

"Our disciplinary committee has had its hearing and they have ruled on the sanctions against the players. Our protocol is such that the information will be forwarded in the first instance to the clubs, giving the clubs the opportunity to inform the players, after which time full disclosure will be given to the media in regards to what the sanctions were, '' he said.
