Harness racing returns on Sunday with 18 races scheduled for the Vesey Street track at 1 p.m.
Two new ponies with see their first action on local soil, with Gusto's Cracker Jack being driven by Michael DeCosta in the 1:18/1 time bar, while Abbey and enters the 1:23/2 bar under the guidance of Pashal Ducket.
Meanwhile, the free-for-all division has been split into two sections and has Abbies Casanova, Nateway and Grand Marshall as the premier members in the A grouping.
Racing should be tight with Francis DeSilva's Casanova currently holding the track record of one minute, eight seconds, while Nateway has a best time of 1:08/2 and not far behind is Marshall at 1:09/1.
Eddie The Great and Catch A Fire make up the B section and will be bidding to move up with good showings.
A rung lower is the junior free-for-all that has four competitors in the forms of Shamrock Tuxedo, Pleasant Surprise, Little Dinger and Hoe Down Don.
Several other intriguing match-ups are also scheduled among the slower time bars, including the initial appearance this year of Tina's Princess, owned by Timmy Boyles, which has Eddie Roque's fleet-footed V-Six as her chief opposition.
TENNIS TEN The Heineken Bermuda Open, which begins on October 25 at the Tennis Stadium, will be the final opportunity for players to improve on their 1993 rankings.
The spotlight will be on the Men's A rankings, where Jerome Bradshaw has a suprising edge over Ricky Mallory. Bradshaw lurched ahead of the pack after his narrow victory over Mallory at the recent Grotto Bay Tournament.
The deadline for the Heineken Bermuda Open is today at 7 p.m. The draw will be made tomorrow at 7 p.m. and there will be a pre-tournament social at the Tennis Stadium on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Participants will be allowed to practise free of charge on the new surface.
VOLLEYBALL VOL The Centre's Volleyball Tournament takes place on Friday, November 12 at the BAA Gymnasium from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Each team will be comprised of six players with an age limit of 13 to 18 years old. Dean Minors should be contacted for more information at 292-1343.
