American MacKenzie leapfrogged into first place over first round leader Noel Van Putten who followed his opening 71 with a disappointing 78.

At the end of the second round, with the final 18 holes scheduled today, MacKenzie was on 146, three clear of Van Putten and Rod Holloway.

Holloway also slipped yesterday, shooting 77 after a first round 72, while Howard DeSilva added a 76 to his opening 74 to finish the day in fourth place, four shots off the pace.

Meanwhile, the ladies completed the first round of their 36-hole championship yesterday with Joan Foulger's 16-over-par 85 good enough for the half-way lead.

Caroline Hammond and Gill Riihiluoma were a stroke back on 86.

The highlight of the day, however, was provided by Kathleen Bell who aced the par three third on her way to a score of 88.
