Marshall clinches title in play-off
Intercollegiate Golf Championships following a sudden-death play-off at the Tanagura Country Club in northern Japan yesterday.
Marshall also helped her Wake Forest team win the women's title by five strokes over Japan's Kinki University in the 54-hole event.
The Island's reigning Strokeplay champion won the women's event with a par putt on the first play-off hole, a par-five, against Florida's Jeanne-Marie Busuttil after the two had tied at 221 on the 6,286-yard, par-73 women's layout.
Marshall shot 71 and Busuttil 73 yesterday. The Bermudian fired 74 and 76 during the first two rounds of the tournament.
Wake Forest took the women's team title with 908, followed by Kinki University on 913, Florida on 916 and Japan's Nihon University on 936.
Brian Hull, a senior at Southern California won the men's title, shooting a one-under-par 71 with three birdies and two bogeys to finish on 212, two shots ahead of Japan's Hirokazu Kuniyoshi. Nihon University took the men's team event on 868, 12 shots ahead of second-placed Southern California.
Each team fielded five players with the best four scores counting.
