Puerto Rico when he won a silver in the 100 metres breaststroke final on Saturday night.

Flook, 19, placed second with a time of 1:04.04, having earlier had the fastest of the eight qualifying times in the morning. That time of 1:04.62 obviously boosted his chances of a medal, and spurred on by a number of his Bermudian team-mates he did his Country proud before a large and noisy crowd.

Bermuda came close to picking up a second swimming medal last night when Jenny Smatt placed fourth in the 200 metres breaststroke final. Her time of 2:45.22 was just an agonisingly three tenths of a second out of third place and a bronze medal.

Smatt will have another chance at a medal tomorrow when she competes in the 100 metres breaststroke which she says is her best event. For more see Sports on Page 23.
