Sterritt takes on mountain masters
world's best masters riders when he departs for Bromont in Quebec at the end of the month to contest the Mountain Bike World Masters Championships 2000.
Sterritt was in a class of his own last year during the Bermuda Bicycle Association (BBA) Mountain Bike Series and National Championships, sweeping both as he went undefeated throughout.
The former motocross rider put his bike handling skills to full use in moving from motorised cycles to the pedal version. And while the quiet Irishman prefers to play down his chances at the upcoming competition, his fitness level and preparation indicate that he has the potential to perform well in the 35-39 age group.
World governing body Union Cycliste Internationale held the first installment of the championships last year to rave reviews and expect an even larger entry list this time around, especially with mountain biking taking on status as an Olympic sport only this year.
Brompton, the site for the event, is located an hour from Montreal and has been the site for various top international sporting competitions, including skiing and equestrian.
Sterritt has previously represented Bermuda in road racing at the Commonwealth Games, Small Countries World Championships and World B Championships.
