at the Star Invitational meet in Buffalo, New York.

And the swimmers, coming through heats against a total of almost eight hundred other entrants from more than 40 clubs, were hoping to add to that tally as they competed in nine more finals last night.

Two of the girls -- Anastasia Lau and Ashley Aitken -- also smashed national age group records in the 50 metre pool.

Lau was first on to the podium on Friday night to receive a bronze after racing to a new Island best of 37.44 seconds in the 11-12 50m breaststroke.

Then, on Saturday, Ashley Aitken took silver in the girls' 13-14 50m freestyle as she set a new long course national record of 28.21.

That time, clocked in a dramatic re-run of the event following a power failure, came just a week after she set a new record of 28.03 in the BASA Summer Age Group Championships in the short-course 25 metre pool.

Roy-Allan Burch and Pan-Am Games team member Stephen Troake also medalled in their respective divisions.

Burch had to settle for bronze in the boys' 13-14 50m freestyle, clocking 26.42, while Troake, finishing in 24.99, also received bronze over the same distance in the 15 and over category.

Scott Simmons finished fifth in the boys' 13-14 100m breast and Graham Smith came sixth in the 15 and over 100m breast with a quadruple `A' time of 1:10.49.

Simmons also finished fifth in the 13-14 50m freestyle -- just nineteen hundredths of a second behind medallist team-mate Burch.
