Town go top of standings
A consolation goal in injury time by Aljame Zuill was the only joy Colts got from this First Division match at White Hill.
A mediocre Colts team was lucky to escape a bigger loss against a Town team which dominated play throughout.
The three points saw Town become the new leaders of the division on goal difference.
Inspired up front by lively McLee Smith, Paul Cann, Darron Simons and Kris Martin, Town gained the early initiative and never allowed their jaded opponents room to settle down.
Yet Town could only muster a 1-0 lead at the half despite holding a massive edge, the goal coming from Smith after 38 minutes when he was sent down the left flank by Martin and beat Troy Hall with a 15 yard blast.
The other good scoring chance for Town came after 22 minutes when Martin found Simons, but the striker watched in agony as the advancing Hall dived to block his shot from 12 yards.
While Town excelled, Colts struggled with their forwards, Zuill and Jerome Laws in particular, looking out of touch and contributing little up front.
That trend continued in the second half. But Town quickly opened a 2-0 lead when Simons scored a rebound after Hall made a fine save to deny midfielder Devon Binns from scoring.
With the comfortable lead Town played with less urgency and as a result allowed Colts to come into the game with some momentum with centre-back and skipper Shannon Burgess moving into the attack.
Zuill missed a sitter after 88 minutes when he headed a Melchisedec Gibbons cross wide from seven yards, but he made amends a few minutes later when he scored from a rebound from a shot by Gibbons -- finishing a move started by Hall who had advanced far out of goal.
