All systems go for XL Open
the Paget club pushed on with preparations for next week's XL Bermuda Open, an ATP World Series event.
The Open, which starts officially on Monday morning, will feature several players in the top 100 including Todd Martin (11), Jason Stoltenberg (22), Martin Sinner (50), Brett Steven (53), Vince Spadea (56), Fernando Meligeni (64), Patrick McEnroe (66), Christian Ruud (69), Bryan Shelton (86) and Mats Wilander (95).
Although Martin, who is due to arrive on the Island on Friday, is firmly ensconced as the Open's number one seed, he is expected to get some stiff opposition from some of Europe's best players, including Sinner, a winner of two events in 1995 (Copenhagen and South Africa) and a finalist at two other Challenger events.
Martin is set to play doubles with Grant Connell, since Connell's regular doubles partner, Patrick Galbraith, will be unable to play here.
Qualifying begins on Saturday with Michael Way and Donald Evans, two Bermuda players, hoping to crack the singles draw of 32 players.
