BHS claim cross country double
grabbed team victories in two of three categories at the Inter-School Cross Country meet for girls at Astwood Park.
BHS won both the under-13 and under-15 divisions and just missed out on a clean sweep of team honours, finishing second to Warwick Academy in the over-15s.
In the under 13s, BHS were led by A.J. Crane, second to Patrina Swan of Berkeley who won in a time of eight minutes, 15 seconds, just five seconds ahead of Crane. But while BHS had two other girls in the top 15, Berkeley's next best finish was 12th (Katrina Saltus).
In fact, Bermuda High's stiffest challenge came from Sandys who were led by Janine Scott (fifth in 8.54) while other top 10 finishes came from Rical Showers (seventh) and Deana Bailey (eighth). Sandys were second overall and Warwick Academy third.
In the under-15 age group, Suella Matthews' first place also failed to land her school -- Saltus -- top honours although her winning time of 17.15 was almost a minute faster than Nicola Mello of Bermuda High.
The top 10 places in this division proved decisive as Kristin Smith and Theresa Whitter of Warwick Academy were third and fourth while fifth to eighth and 10th was taken by Bermuda High School to help them land their second title. Warwick Academy were second and Berkeley third.
In the senior age group, Warwick Academy took first place individually on their way to team honours, denying Bermuda High the hat-trick. Tamika Williams was first across the line in 21.19 while Georgina Liburd of Sandys Secondary was second in 21.35.
Bermuda High runners were third, fourth and fifth which was good enough for second overall while Berkeley, whose best finish was Gizelle Ming's eighth, were third.
