Bluebirds blow it

An eighth-minute goal from striker Andy Laws ruined what was supposed to be a weekend of celebration for promotion-chasing Young Men's Social Club.

The Bluebirds, who moved to within a point of second-placed Somerset Eagles with a game in hand after a midweek win over Prospect, had it all to play for but were let down in a performance that underlined their inexperience.

Time and again, the favourites had chances to expose Wolves goalkeeper Andre Smith, but they repeatedly failed to pull the trigger.

In the end it was a professional performance from Wolves that won the day, belying their poor league standing.

Social Club, who had their best chance of winning promotion to the First Division for the first time in 15 years, now head back to the drawing board hoping that a better start to the new season will put them in good stead for what will be yet another battle to get out of the Second Division.

Prospect 4, Port Royal 5 Port Royal closed out their season with a dramatic last minute victory over Prospect at a windswept Police field yesterday.

Craig Dickson's 90th minute winner earned Royal the points after they and the men in blue had battled to a virtual standstill.

Port Royal grabbed the lead in the first half through Llewelyn Bean and doubled it heading toward the half-time break when Craig Simons added a second.

Raynell Perinchief and Winston Thomas added further scores, however Prospect stormed back with Dwayne Leverock, Kenny Bartrum and John Richmond (two) tallying to level things.

But just when it appeared a draw would be the result, Dickson popped up to notch the clincher.

St. David's 1, Southampton 4 Second Division champions Southampton Rangers yesterday concluded the season undefeated with an emphatic three-goal victory over hosts St. David's at Lord's yesterday.

The visitors snatched a 2-0 lead by the interval on goals by Nashon Burrows after five minutes and Irvin Trott 17 minutes later.

They threatened to put the game completely out of their opponent's reach after 59 minutes when Jeremy Smith gave them a 3-0 lead.

Tyrone Weeks made it 3-1 after 62 minutes but St. David's could produce little more to worry the champions.

Gregory Steede completed the scoring with Rangers' fourth goal in the 79th minute.

Ham. Parish 2, Paget 1 Hamilton Parish closed out their season at Frog Lane field with their third league win, leaving Paget pointless at the bottom of the standings.

Donovan Thompson opened the scoring for Parish in the 20th minute only for Damien Mendoza to equalise for eight-man Paget on the half hour. Paget were then three minutes away from their first point of the season when Larry Allen notched Parish's winner in the 87th minute.
