Bromby improves at Worlds
World Championships following another outstanding day on the waters off Laredo, Spain yesterday.
The Bermudian pair, who placed sixth in Monday's opening race of the six-race regatta, moved up to fifth overall yesterday after a fifth place finish in race two and 14th in race three.
Following Sunday's postponement of the first race, the championships are now back on schedule with, weather permitting, one race to be sailed over each of the next three days.
Bromby couldn't be contacted at his base in Spain last night where he and White are rooming with Canada's defending champion and current leader Ross Macdonald.
However, with three races remaining in an event which has attracted a 76-strong fleet including almost all of the world's top Star sailors, the Bermudians have already made a huge impression.
According to one race official yesterday, any boat in the top 20 is still in with a chance of lifting the championships under a format which allows each skipper to drop his worst finish.
Yesterday's race two results saw American Mark Reynolds on top followed by Denmark's Michael Hestbaek, and Bromby in fifth with Macdonald, who won race one, failing to get among the top five.
But the Canadian, sailing with crew Eric Jespersen, grabbed a second victory in race three to take the overall lead, although he is tied on points with Denmark's Christian Rasmussen and crew Kasper Harsberg.
Lying third are Hans Vogt and Joerg Fricke of Germany followed by Reynolds and Haenel of the US and then Bromby and White.
Just five points separate the top five with Macdonald tied with Rasmussen on 15, Vogt on 23, Reynolds on 24 and Bromby 25.
Yesterday's racing took place in winds of 15 to 25 knots.
