Colts eager to bounce back . . .
2-1 loss to Dandy Town when they step out against North Village in the Martonmere Cup tonight Double-header action is at BAA with Village and Colts meeting at 9.00 p.m. and Vasco and Boulevard clashing at 7.00. The matches were originally scheduled for Somerset, but problems with the lights at the west end club have forced a switch of venue.
Colts' skipper Shannon Burgess is confident that his side will be competitive despite the absence of regulars Jay Bean and Jermaine Belboda, both sent off on Tuesday.
But he realises that they will have to show marked improvement to keep a lively, young Village team under control.
"Our only concern is the failure to score goals,'' said Burgess. "We have played two games so far this season and haven't scored once. Our goal in the Charity Cup was an own goal and for a team that scored 42 league goals last season it's clear that we have to improve up front.'' Village's new skipper, Kenny Thompson, remains enthusiastic about his team's debut, winning 2-1 against Dandy Town in the Martonmere Cup in the first round on goals by Jameiko Jennings and Irving Romaine.
The coach doesn't hide the fact that they are in a building mode at Village with the emphasis on giving the young prospects an opportunity to develop.
Midfielder Jameiko Jennings, just back from training in England with two professional clubs, and foward Ralph Bean Jr. started against Town and could be called on again by the coach tonight to gain further experience.
The BFA have rescheduled Commercial League A make-up games for Tuesday evening at BAA (7.00 and 9.00) and B make-up games for Thursday evening at the same venue.
