Colts emerge from alliance KO goalfest

Devonshire Colts and Hamilton Parish at Frog Lane field produced fireworks to rival the Fourth of July.

Colts eventually won this explosive battle 10-8, but it took extra time for them to do so as Parish refused to surrender their position despite playing most of the match with 10 men. Ashton Outerbridge was sent off in the first half.

The scoreline read 3-1 in favour of the home side at half-time and the advantage was 6-3 midway into the second half, before Parish stormed back to take the lead at 7-6.

Not to be outdone, Colts levelled things again at 7-7 to force an extension of play.

Continuing in the see-saw vein, Colts went up by one only to have Parish come back again, but the latter were finally laid to rest by two unanswered strikes that secured the former a place in the next round.

Tajmal Webb led the way for Colts, netting a hat-trick, while Keishon Smith, Kenny Dill and Aljame Zuill each tallied twice and a Theron Smith penalty rounded out the scoring.

Meanwhile, Glenn Smith scored four for Parish aided by single strikes from John Nusum, Joe Latham, Dennis Trott and Raymond Knights.

There were in fact a number of high scores recorded and next to cash in on being matched against inferior opponents were Boulevard, who hammered Southampton 6-1.

Vernon Symonds (two), Maxwell Hull, Kenny Darrell, Anthony Roberts and Maurice Smith were on target for the Blazers, while Ross Lambe converted a consolation effort for Rangers.

Having their way against Prospect were St. George's during a 5-0 triumph that had Sinclair Gibbons and Carlos Greaves net two apiece and Kuma Smith once.

Dandy Town similarly crushed BAA 4-0 courtesy of goals from Jeffrey Butterfield, Jeffrey Trott, Michael Wells and Mark Butterfield.

At Lord's it was St. David's flogging Somerset Eagles 6-1 as James Pace ran amok for four goals to go with one each from teammates Shea Pitcher and Greg Minors.

In the final Alliance game, PHC disposed of Somerset 3-1. Mark Smith, Dean O'Brien and Troy Crockwell struck for the Zebras to effectively nullify a goal from the Trojans' Steval Arorash.

Exiles continued with their turnaround after several early-season failures, stretching their winning streak to three matches on the tails of a 2-1 defeat of Spinning Wheel.

David Marchant played a role in both goals. He scored the first following good work on the right flank by Alan Johnson and created the second for striker Mark Thorne, both in the first half.

Allan Fray pulled one back as Wheel came on strong in the second half, but the equaliser proved elusive.

Formerly winless Island Rangers cancelled that tag with a surprising 3-1 come-from-behind victory over Forties at Malabar.

Troy Berkeley increased his individual goal tally to eight by scoring once and was assisted by Steven Berkeley and Blaine Outerbridge.

Derek Patience had earlier given Forties a 1-0 lead with his third goal of the season.

BAA Wanderers defeated North Village Rams 1-0 on a Richard Correia strike.

Fire Service extinguished St. George's All-Stars 4-1 as Steven Caines (two), Steven Daniels and Terry Smith scored for the firemen. Cal Raynor netted for St. George's.

A Mike Evans hat-trick combined with Patrick Stone's solo effort for Lobster Pot put the nails in Valley's coffin as the former won 4-0.

Somerset Extros cruised past Park United 3-1 at Shelly Bay on goals by Mel Roberts, Kevin Bailey and substitute Earl Pringle. Elvis Edness pulled one back for Park.

Robin Hood made a meal of Prison Officers with an 8-0 triumph. Leading 1-0 at the interval, Hood feasted heartily in the second half as Derek Stapley recorded a hat-trick, Des Minors and Simon Turner netted twice and Peter Slater rounded things out.

Devonshire Colts All-Stars and KPMG Peat Marwick battled to scoreless draw after extra time.
