Cougars denied by late goal
Devonshire Cougars were denied three precious points when a goal by substitute Lamar Seymour two minutes from the end earned Rangers a share of the points at Devonshire Rec.
Rangers, who took the lead after just 95 seconds, looked headed for defeat when two goals from Cougars' super-sub Sherritt Hewey put the home team on course for all three points. But just like the early Rangers goal, the late strike proved to be a blow for Cougars.
Donnie Charles gave Rangers the lead when the ball bounced free to him from a blocked clearance and he planted a low shot from the edge of the penalty area.
Cougars, despite some good scoring chances, including one from Shawn Smith in the 14th minute which was put wide from a good position, spent the rest of the half trying to pull level.
Cougars' determination continued in the second half with the introduction of Hewey for Oscar Samuels giving the attack a boost. He was involved in a good move which was started by Ryan Swan, with the end result being a Wali Salaam shot over the bar from 10 yards.
The goal that Cougars threatened to score finally came two minutes later when Hewey, only on the field 10 minutes, equalised from close range after the Rangers defence was again exposed.
Kwame Tucker was booked two minutes later for fouling Kaiwon Saltus as Cougars started to take control.
What was thought to be a winner for Cougars came in the 80th minute when a shot from outside the box by George Dyer was blocked in the box by Hewey who quickly turned and blasted past Randy Darrell in goal.
A host of Rangers players quickly surrounded referee's assistant Lawrence DeShields to protest an offside, though it looked as though Charles had kept Hewey in front of the defence. After referee Anthony Mouchette came over to support his colleague, Tucker was shown the red card for swearing at DeShields.
Despite playing a man short, Rangers forced an equaliser in the closing minutes when a weak shot towards goal from a corner was headed into the bottom corner by Seymour.
