Daniels, Bradshaw lead the way in Seniors Open
rain but finished on the weekend in brilliant sunshine as top singles seeds Eldon Daniels and Donna Bradshaw lifted the respective men's and ladies' titles.
Some 73 matches were played at Pomander Gate in this inaugural tournament as Daniels, winner of three titles at the recent Heineken Open, clinched the men's singles crown with a 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) victory over number three seed David Lambert. The match lasted two-and-a-half hours and after four match points and one code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct, Daniels emerged the winner.
Lambert beat second seed Martin Zolnai in one semi-final while Daniels got past number four ranked Vernal Davis in the other.
The ladies singles final wasn't as close but equally as long as the men's as Bradshaw defeated number two seed Renee Heyliger 6-0, 6-1. Bradshaw beat Pat Pamplin in the semi-final while Heyliger got by Belinda Rogers.
Back on centre court, Bradshaw then teamed up with Julie Lunn to face Nina Alami and Erika Hendriks in the doubles final, losing 4-6, 7-5, 6-3. On their way to the title, Alami and Hendriks defeated Noni Fallon and Nancy Nichols 6-1, 6-1 in the semi-finals while Bradshaw and Lunn defeated Wendy Gray and Sally Godet 6-0, 6-1.

Both teams were fresh from victories the previous night when Melvin and Sharpe beat number two seeds Ed Browne and Eldon Daniels 7-5, 6-1. Browne and Daniels had a bye in the first round and a default in the second.
In the other semi-final Moore and Zolnai enjoyed a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Jan Jarmula and Richard Ranum.
In her third final of the day, Donna Bradshaw teamed up with Daniels to beat the husband and wife team of David and Barbara Lambert 6-4, 6-4. Top seeds Bradshaw and Daniels beat Tracey Berrell and Fred Crigger 6-1, 6-1 to reach the final while the Lamberts, seeded number two, easily beat Michael Levon and Pat Pamplin 6-0, 6-0.
The mixed century doubles saw Daniels land another title when he partnered Julie Lunn to win the final against Jarmula and Alami 6-2, 6-2. Jarmula and Alami beat number two seeds Keith Fisher and Suzette Edmead -- another husband and wife pair -- 7-5, 6-3 for their place in the final while Daniels/Lunn stopped husband and wife Richard and Wendy Gray 6-0, 6-0 in the other semi.
