The fishing vessel Princess' captain had his name drawn from seven applicants for the last available commercial spiny lobster trapping licence.

Twenty-one of the 22 available licences were given out to local fishermen prior to Monday and the last one was made available in the draw. There were 13 applicants for the solitary licence originally but six did not fit the legal definition for being a "full-time fisherman'', said a Government spokesman.

The spiny lobster season begins today and the commercial licence is good until March 31.

The licence, which includes rental of Government traps, allows a fishermen to work 15 traps offshore until December 1, at which time there is an option of setting up an inshore fishery using ten traps.
