Dream start to cup campaign

Anytime you get a win of that magnitude, especially when you play most of the game with 10 men, you've got to be happy and we're estatic.

5-1 win away from home.

Anytime you get a win of that magnitude, especially when you play most of the game with 10 men, you've got to be happy and we're estatic.

After Kentoine Jennings was sent off, the rest of the team showed a lot of composure and character to take control of the game. That's what happens when you have a few professionals in your team. Their experience filters through to the other players.

The BVI side was not a great one but we still had to beat them and to get five goals against anybody is an achievement at this level.

Shaun Goater and Kyle Lightbourne did well for us and we will probably not call on either for the second leg. The decision has to be discussed but their clubs Manchester City and Stoke have done us a favour and now, at 5-1 up, we can return the favour.

We want to keep good relations with those clubs, because having strong links with English soccer can benefit Bermuda in many ways.

Take the case of our promising young striker Stephen Astwood for example. I'm trying to use Shaun and Kyle's help to get an opening for him.

Astwood's only 18 and he is a raw talent and I'm sure he's good enough to make an impact in a youth team at a pro club. He just needs to be given a chance.

I was proud of the whole team in BVI. We went there to get a result and it was a job well done. Everyone did well, from goalkeeper upwards.

Dwayne (Streaker) Adams made a few great saves when we did come under pressure. He had some poor games on the Florida tour, but on the day it really mattered he came good. That was the Streaker of old we saw.

It was nice for Shaun to get his hat-trick. He's so important for the team. He ambles around and then suddenly he pounces. His first goal was tremendous, the way he outfoxed the defender and lobbed the ball over the 'keeper. You've got to be talented to do what he did then and when you've got a player like that you've always got the chance of a goal.

David Bascome and Meshach Wade also did well and we will be asking their club, Harrisburg Heat, to release them for the second leg. It's good for them to get a few outdoor games under their belts as the physical demands are different from the indoor game they play in the States.

I'm taking nothing for granted for the second leg. We still have to finish the job and we will go out there with the bit between our teeth. Even without Shaun and Kyle, I'm sure we have enough talent to come in and cope well.

Provided we get through, we will go to Antigua in the next round and give it our best shot. When we have all our players available we can do well against most teams in the Carbbean region and we are capable of suprising people.

Stephen Astwood: `good enough to make an impact at an English professional club.'
