Eton win comfortably
West Under-19s 88 Eton College of England had a good start to their Bermuda tour as Bermuda-born captain David Ferreira led them to a comfortable 108-run win over a West Select at Police Field.
Ferreira was the top bat in the Eton innings with a patient 31 as the top four Eton batsmen laid their foundation for their winning total, with openers Timothy Hawk and Adam England both scoring 28 in their first-wicket stand of 64.
Ferreira and Alexander Kindersley (24) added 50 for the third wicket as the 100 came up in 30 overs.
The Eton captain also held two catches behind the stumps as the West Select fell well short of their target with only three players reaching double figures.
The West Select made some progress on the field when medium-pacer Dion Stovell picked up some cheap wickets on his way to figures of five for 30 which slowed up the Eton scoring.
Adam Goldberg was the only other visiting batsman in double figures with 22 as Jacobi Robinson claimed two for 33 from eight overs to support Stovell. Shane Hollis had a tight 10-over spell, finishing with one for 18.
The West never had a big stand as the Eton bowlers needed just 21.1 overs to complete their win. Captain Kamen Tucker, coming in at number five at 35-3, was high man with 20 before he was last out as the last three wickets fell off successive balls. Opener Johnny Ball scored 15.
Goldberg claimed three for 17 while Sam Collins, Alastair Dalrymple and Fergus Boyd all had two each.
Today the tourists meet league champions Southampton Rangers at Southampton Oval (umpires are George Francis and Stephen West) while tomorrow they meet a West Select at Police Field.
