Falmouth place still up for grabs
Sunday of The Athletic Club 5-K, the final event on the KPMG Peat Marwick Road Running Series.
Although Mark Perry has an unassailable 17 point lead atop the men's standings at 76 there is still quite a bit at stake, with the top three in both the men's and women's categories gaining sponsored entries to August's Falmouth Road Race in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
A close battle exists for second between Tracy Wright (52), Marathon Derby champion Kavin Smith (54) and Brett Forgesson (59).
A similar situation exists among the females where Maria Conroy-Haydon (74) is in the drivers seat, followed by Anna Eatherley (66) and Lynn Kynoch (59).
In addition, one male and female master will make the jaunt as will a single veteran male.
Peggy Couper presently holds the edge over Sandra Mewett, 68 to 60, but the latter can never be counted out making this an intriguing situation.
Jeremy Ball (68) and Harry Patchett (64) are one-two among the masters, but are believed to be overlooking Sunday's race to travel to an overseas event.
This would hand the title to Ball.
Meanwhile, Giorgio Zanol (76) has a healthy lead over Mike Rickards (68) among the veterans.
Included in the list of draw prizes, which include four trips to Falmouth (only those who have competed in the required eight races are eligible) is a colour television.
The race starts from The Athletic Club and finishes at Victoria Park. Entry forms are available at The Athletic Club, Sports R Us, The Pro Shop and The Sports Cellar until Friday at 5 p.m.
MARK PERRY.
