Franco leaves it late

Paul Franco snatched a last-gasp winner for BAA to keep the Green Knights in the Daihatsu Second Division promotion hunt with this 2-1 triumph over Port Royal at BAA field.

However, it was Royal who may have been deserving of a better fate as they controlled vast spells of this encounter and looked headed for at least a share of the spoils before Franco popped up to steal away a precious two points.

Scoreless at the half Royal went into the lead early into the second period on the tails of a penalty strike by Jamel Smith.

The advantage was erased when Cleve Crichlow equalised for the home side.

As time dwindled BAA stepped up the pressure and their opponents began fading fast.

Even the sending-off of Norman Correia for head-butting another player could not halt the charge and it was left to Franco to head home a corner kick for the final scoreline.

BAA are now level with second-placed Wolves and fifth-placed Prospect on eight points, just two behind leaders Devonshire Cougars.

Som. Eagles 3, Social Club 5 The battle of the `birds' at White Hill field saw the Bluebirds flying higher after overwhelming the Eagles as Social Club defeated Somerset Bridge 5-3.

Troy Darrell, making his first appearance this season, opened the scoring for the Hamilton club in the first half and this advantage was doubled by George Liburd.

Eagles came back to close within a goal at 2-1, where it stayed until after the half when Social produced another spurt to restore the two-goal margin.

Yet another fightback allowed the west-enders to close again within a single goal, but they only threatened to deceive as Social Club struck twice more to seal the game, although the home side did notch another tally.

Assisting Darrell and Liburd in scoring were Shawn Laws and Mel Bowen (two), while Terrence Christopher scored twice for Eagles with Everett Wellman getting the other.
