Furbert hat-trick sparks Fire Service
Group A of the Commercial League, after further wins on Saturday kept them tied for first place.
Fire Service continued to hold down top spot on goal difference after a 6-0 thrashing of MR Onions as Troy Furbert snatched a hat-trick, Kenny Bartrum scored two and Randy Boyles hit the other.
Hood's match was much closer. In fact, they had to come from behind to beat bottom team Mariners 2-1. Carlos Lopes gave Mariners the lead from the penalty spot in the 10th minute but Hood equalised five minutes before the break through Jar McCabe. Alan Mooney netted the winner in the 65th minute.
Third-placed North Village Rams fell off the pace when they were beaten 3-2 by Lobster Pot who picked up only their second win of the season. Tony Smith got them off to a good start with goals in the 24th and 26th minutes, before Allan Fray also netted twice -- 57th and 59th minutes -- to tie it up 2-2. Tony Hassan then scored Pot's winner in the 79th minute.
Champions BAA Wanderers took over sole possession of third place, six points behind the leaders, when they stopped Prison Officers 4-0 in a match in which no official referee showed up.
Andy McCulloch led the scoring with two goals while Alistair Smith and Martin Jones also found the net.
PHC Raiders extended their winning streak to seven games at the top of Group B as Des Minors hit his 20th Commercial League hat-trick in their 7-1 rout of St. George's All-Stars. Minors found the net four times while Brian (Bulla) Anderson scored twice and Yousseff Bousetta the other.
Belco remain six points behind in second place after hitting 13 goals past hapless Valley with Sinclair Boyles and Marlon Lindsay both scoring hat-tricks. Even goalkeeper Gerald Sims got in on the scoring act with two goals while substitute Steven Black also netted twice.
Casey Butterfield, Vernall Cann and Dennis Pimental added to the team's biggest win of the season.
Somerset Extros lost ground when they went down 4-3 to Wolves Pack. Casey Burgess scored twice for the winners and Gregory Talbot and Daniel Stovell the others while Dwaine Richardson (2) and Donnie Simmons replied for Extros.
Devonshire Lions beat bottom team Bermuda Pest Control 6-3 with Ernest McCallan and substitute Jason Simons each scoring two and Terry Bean and James Raynor one for the winners. A.Francis, M.Skrihjah and C.Davis replied for Pest Control.
