Rhonda Rawlins helped Canaries to an emphatic Ladies' Hockey League victory over a weakened Swallows side with her third hat-trick of the season.

Swallows were without a number of key players, including goalkeeper Amy Dawson, and Canaries took full advantage.

Rawlins hit a reverse shot past the last defender and goalkeeper for her first goal and then netted her second by again following up a shot on goal to sweep the ball past the 'keeper's pads. Before the half-time break, Rawlins had completed her treble, firing a shot just inside the post from the top of the circle.

In the second half, Canaries switched their corner tactics and that resulted in a fourth goal when a push to Lisa DeSilva was squared to Stacey DeShields who slammed the ball into the net.

A long clearance out of defence led to the fifth goal. Rawlins picked it up on the left wing and centred to DeSilva to finish beautifully.

Bluebirds A 4 Swifts A 1 Bluebirds opened with a spell of constant pressure, which paid off with a penalty flick in the 17th minute, converted calmly by Laura West.

Fifteen minutes later Melisa Milano made it 2-0, pouncing on the rebound after Sarah Smith's shot had been saved.

Sarah Maltby scored a third goal for Bluebirds, but Swifts managed to pull one back before half-time.

Bluebirds rounded off their victory with an excellent fourth goal five minutes into the second half, when Candy Foggo's hard, low cross was touched into the net by Ellen Charnley.

Cardinals A 3 Orioles A 1 Cardinals piled on the pressure from the start, but were unable to find a way past the Orioles goalkeeper until just before half-time.

Georgina Adlam broke the deadlock by deflecting the ball into the net after a crisp shot against the goalkeeper's pads by Susie Elton.

Orioles came out fighting after the interval and deservedly levelled the scores when Laura Bardgett scored from a short corner penalty.

Maria Pichery restored Cardinals' lead after latching onto a pass from Edna-Mae Tuzo. Pichery steered the ball into the net through a narrow gap between goalkeeper and defender.

Pichery later won a penalty flick after being floored by Orioles goalkeeper Tish Parfitt. Pichery took the flick herself, but Parfitt pulled off a fine save.

Bardgett sealed victory for Cardinals with the third goal from a penalty corner, the assist provided by Jessica Sousa.

Swallows B 0 Canaries B 2 After a goalless first half, Canaries finally broke through with a goal by Georgie Barbosa. The second goal came from Karla Preece after a scuffle in the circle with the keeper.

Orioles B 0 Cardinals B 1 Orioles held firm in the first half against a string of penalty corners from Cardinals.

The deadlock was broken after the interval following a long corner from Cardinals. The first shot was saved by the goalkeeper, but Suelan Veale was first to the rebound to push the ball into the net.

Cardinals forced penalty corners galore late in the game, but Orioles resisted strongly to keep the score down to 1-0.
