Goater limps off as City win
Manchester City won 2-0 at home to Bolton last night to move back into second place in the First Division table.
City dominated proceedings in the first half and scored in the 18th and 23rd minutes through Kevin Horlock and Paul Dickov.
City were content to sit on their two-goal lead in the second half after losing top scorer Goater in the 51st minute when he took a knock and hobbled off. Goater confirmed this week that he would not be returning for Bermuda's second round World Cup qualifying matches against Antigua, as he wants to concentrate on winning promotion to the Premiership with City. They have six matches -- five during April -- to achieve a second successive promotion.
City's victory moved them above Barnsley, but they still trail leaders Charlton by 13 points.
A last-minute winner by Alan Thompson pushed Sheffield Wednesday close to relegation yesterday as Aston Villa won 1-0 at Hillsborough.
Thompson headed in a cross from Steve Stone with seconds remaining. Villa climb to sixth place in the Premier League while Wednesday are still 10 points short of the safety zone with only seven games left.
In Scotland, second-placed Celtic won 4-0 victory against fourth-placed Motherwell.
