Haromy fires Hood into semi-finals

defending champions Robin Hood a 2-1 victory over Prison Officers in their Commercial Division Knockout Cup quarter-final at Shelly Bay on Saturday.

Haromy struck both goals for Hood, scoring the opener after 25 minutes to give them a 1-0 lead at the interval.

Officers fought back when play restarted and were rewarded when veteran forward Charlie Fox converted a penalty after 60 minutes.

But Hood continued to dominate only to be denied time and time again by the goalkeeping of Dwayne Bean. Their deserved winner came after 80 minutes and John Beardsley blew another scoring opportunity when he missed from the penalty spot five minutes from the end.

BAA Wanderers, North Village Rams and Forties also advanced to the semi-finals on Saturday.

Wanderers were involved in the highest scoring match, getting by a stubborn Island Rangers team 5-3 at Malabar Field.

Wendell Anderson scored twice and Mike Bremar the other for the home team. But Wanderers came out on top thanks to two goals from Andy Powell and one each from Frankie Brewster, Gary Flood and Alistair Smith.

Rams had to go to penalties before beating Devonshire Colts 4-3 at Frog Lane.

The match was tied at 1-1 after extra time on goals from Jeff Richardson of All-Stars and Allan Smith for Rams.

Milgrove Romaine, Leroy Wilson, David Scraders and Cornell Castle scored for Rams from the penalty spot while Quincy Jones, Richardson and Colin Zuill netted for All-Stars.

In the other quarter-final Forties beat Exiles 3-0 at Shelly Bay.

Andy Robinson's goal separated the teams at half-time but further strikes from Brian Fubler and Kevin Poole made certain of the victory.

In a Commercial Division B make-up match Wolves Pack outscored Somerset Extros 4-3 at Shelly Bay Field. Gary Peniston led Wolves' scoring with two goals while Dennis O'Brien and Derek Douglas got one each. Josef Gooden, Mel Roberts and Durite Durrant scored for Extros.
