High jumper Bean leads Pacers attack
from the East Coast Invitational Meet which ended yesterday in Bethesda, Maryland.
Two medals came on the first day when Raneika Bean won the first of her two gold medals with a winning leap of 17-feet, 10-inches in the 13-14 girls long jump. It was a personal best for Bean.
Also picking up a medal on the opening day was Richard Walcott who placed third in the boys 13-14 1500 metres.
By the time the dust had settled on day three Bean had collected three medals in total -- two golds and a silver, Walcott a gold and a bronze, Vernell Lambe two silvers and a bronze and Danielle Watson and Latisha Perinchief a silver and a bronze respectively.
Delmari Scott placed fourth in the 13-14 boys long jump with a jump of 18-feet, eight inches.
Lambe qualified for the semi-finals of the nine and 10 boys 200 metres by winning his heat in 28.1 seconds. Kai-Jay Davis also qualified in the 11-12 boys 200 metres when he placed second in 27.2 seconds.
In the 100 metres, Lamar Richardson (16.1), Tonae Perinchief (15.9), Vernell Lambe (13.7), Latisha Perinchief (13.6), Kai-Jay Davis (12.9) and Raneika Bean (12.5) all qualified for the semi-finals. Only Perinchief (15.9), Lambe (13.3) and Bean (12.2) advanced to the final.
None of the local partipants advanced past the semi-finals of the 400 metres while in the 200 metres semis, Lambe won his race in 21.5 -- a PB. Kai-Jay Davis placed third in his semi-final in 27.2 and failed to reach the final.
The Pacers won their third and fourth medals in the field events on the second day when Lambe finished third in the 9-10 boys long jump with a leap of 13-feet, one inch. Bean won her second gold when she won the girls 13-14 high jump with a jump of five feet.
In the final field event of the day Gabriel Wilkinson placed fourth in the 15-16 boys shot with a throw of 40-feet, 81 inches.
The final day was the most successful when the club picked up six medals.
Danielle Watson placed second in the 11-12 girls long jump with a leap of 13-feet, 11 inches. Latisha Perinchief was third (13-feet, 91 inches).
During the 100 metres finals, Vernell Lambe placed second in a 13.2 which was a PB.
Bean picked up her third medal of the meet when she placed second in the 13-14 girls 100 metres with a time of 12.5. The winning time was 12.3.
In the 9-10 boys 200 metres final, Lambe won his third medal when he placed second in a time of 27.6. The winning time was 26.9.
The best race of the day for the club came when Walcott won the 13-14 800 metres in a personal best time of 2:02.18.
