Hunt, Wade make a meal of Social Club bowling
Social Club were made to pay dearly for their decision to send home team Somerset in to bat as the west-enders blasted their way to the season's highest score as veteran Roger Hunt and youngster Davon Wade both scored centuries.
Social Club's decision reaped early dividends when Kevin Saunders was dismissed with just seven runs on the board. However, second and third-wicket stands bewteen Dwight Basden and Hunt and then Hunt and Wade removed any hopes Social Club may have had of an upset.
Basden (28) added 63 for the second wicket with Hunt who then shared in a third-wicket stand of 177, which carried the score to 247. By the time the stand ended Hunt had blasted his way to 121, which included 16 fours and two sixes. Wade carried on to reach a top score of 126 before he, too, was run out to end an innings that included 10 fours and eight sixes.
Even after the pair departed Somerset still had 10 overs remaining and duly scored another 112 runs with captain Perry Maybury hitting 47 to take the total past 300.
Dwayne Adams was the only Social Club bowler to take more than one wicket as he claimed two for 33 from only three overs.
Social Club lasted just 27.3 overs as opening bowlers Charles Swan and Steven Brown took four for 27 and three for 25 respectively from their 10 overs with James Swan wrapping up the win with the last two wickets for 14 runs from just nine deliveries.
Elvis Richardson, batting at number 10, led the Social Club reply with 30 not out while Hugh Hollis hit 19 and captain Webster Mills 18.
Cleveland 150 Somerset Bridge 104 The Somerset Bridge batsmen showed their inconsistency when they failed to reach a winning target of 151 against Cleveland at White Hill field -- just a week after pulling off a stunning victory by batting second and scoring 278 against Police away from home.
Cleveland won the game by 46 runs.
This time only three batsmen reached double figures for Bridge. Opener Tony Cheeseman was high scorer with 36 while Gladwin Ingham followed with 15 and David Jones 13.
Spinners Johnny Richardson and Del Hollis led the Cleveland bowling attack.
Richardson had three wickets for 11 runs off 4.1 overs while Del Hollis, who opened the bowling with Diallo Sharrieff, took two for 26 off seven overs.
Sharrieff was top bat for Cleveland with 29 not out while Jermaine Postlethwaite made 25 and Grant Smith scored 17.
Brian Gibbons was the leading bowler for Bridge with four for 35 while David Jones had three for 23 off 10 overs with three maidens.
Warwick 111 Willow Cuts 113-1 Warwick conquered the century mark for the second time in five matches, but it was not enough to hold off Willow Cuts, who encountered little difficulty in facing a toothless attack when it came their turn to bat.
Opener Anthony Fubler recorded his first half-century in a few seasons, plundering nine fours and a six at the limited confines of Southampton Oval, while number three Andre Hendrickson facilitated things at the other end with a dashing 40, including seven fours and one six.
Dwayne Basden, the only other batsman to take strike, made just eight before falling victim leg before wicket to Daniel Caines.
During Warwick's innings Kevin Fubler proved their chief hazard, seizing four wickets with his right-arm off-breaks. His haul came from just six overs at a cost of just 17 runs.
Highlighting the home team's batting was Trent Lightbourne, who top-scored with 40 and engaged in a 29-run third-wicket partnership with Morgan (20).
However, the bottom soon fell out and they were left saddled with a fifth consecutive loss from as many matches.
