Island swimmers sweep eight medals
Championships in Aruba with an impressive haul of six gold medals and two bronzes.
Ronald Cowen won three of the golds in the 18-21 100 and 200 metres freestyle and the 200 individual medley, while Graham Smith bagged two more golds in the 15-17 100 and 200 breaststroke.
Anastasia Lau completed the haul of golds by winning the 11-12 100 breaststroke, while Jessica Sousa won bronze in the 15-17 100 backstroke and Ashley Aitken earned another bronze in the 13-14 50 freestyle.
The girls relay team of Jessica Sousa, Kim Frith, Kiera Aitken and Lesley Smith set new 15-18 age group records in both the 4x100 medley relay and the 4x100 freestyle relay.
Aitken also set a new national record in the 200 freestyle, clocking 2:18.63.
Age group records were set by Flora Duffy (four), Graham Smith (two), Stephen Kenny and Roy-Allan Burch.
Duffy's achievements in the 11-12 age group were all the more remarkable, as it was her debut swimming for Bermuda and her first competition in a long-course (50-metre) pool. In all of her four events, she broke age group records and reached the finals, bagging three fifths and a fourth place.
Bermuda finished seventh out of 17 countries and reached 35 finals out of 86 swims.
