Twelve-year-old James, who was the youngest player in recent Amstel League play but still topped the averages, completed the 54-hole Worlds in two-over-par 173.

He carded rounds of 58, 61 and 54 over the par-57 course in a tournament which saw 18 players finish under par. The winner fired a 13-under par total of 158.

Older brother David, competing in the 15-17 age group, failed to make the cut after rounds of 92, 85 and 78. That division was won by the son of professional Craig Stadler, winner of last year's Merrill Lynch Shoot-out in Bermuda.

Meanwhile, two more local juniors, Andrew Trott and Michael Sims, are currently representing the Island at the Optimist International Tournament on the PGA East course in West Palm Beach, Florida, while Robert Spurling has been playing at the North-South tournament in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

Sims was lying fifth after shooting 76 on the opening day and then a superb two-under-par 70 in the second round, to trail the leader by just four shots.

Trott had carded 86 and 84 and was in danger of missing the 54-hole cut. The 72-hole event concludes this weekend. Spurling returned an opening round of 77 at Pinehurst followed by 79. He was due to finish the 54-hole tournament on Thursday.
