Kim qualifies eighth in Pinehurst medal round
Georgia, last week, Bermudian Kim Marshall has succeeded in qualifying for the North/South Golf Tournament at Pinehurst G&CC in North Carolina.
The Wake Forest freshman carded rounds of 78 and 75 on Tuesday and yesterday to finish eighth amongst the 64 qualifiers from a field of 132.
"I think I played pretty good,'' Marshall said last night of her two rounds on the 6,248-yard, par-73 course.
"Actually I hit the ball better today than yesterday and felt more confident with my putter.'' In Tuesday's first round Marshall was 41 on the front nine and 37 on the back nine in gusty condition with winds reaching 30 mph. The lowest round recorded on the day was an even-par 73. Yesterday, the teenager was even-par 36 on the front nine and 37 for the back nine.
Today sees the start of the match play part of the event with Marshall playing her first match this morning and, if successful, another round this afternoon.
She is confident coming off a good first NCAA tournament.
"I'm very pleased with the way I played and I'm hoping to continue this week,'' she said.
"I'll just go out there and try to play well. If I do that I should beat the person I'm facing.'' When asked how the pressure differs from stroke play to match play, Marshall replied: "I think there's less pressure because if you mess up that's only one hole and you still have another chance.''
