been taking some tips from her world number two Australian fiance.

As the Shell Divisional Handicap Tournament got underway at the Devonshire courts over the weekend, Michelle Tracey-Patte pulled off one the first upsets when she ousted first team men's player Jan Brewer in a five-game marathon.

In fact, several of the opening matches saw women defeat their male opponents.

Using a deceptive double-handed backhand, Tracey-Patte outlasted Brewer 15-8, 12-15, 15-9, 13-15, 15-11. But her playing style wasn't so effective in the second round as she went down 3-0 to veteran Rod Holloway.

Ladies club champion Sarah Bishop, meanwhile, bruised more male egos as she breezed by both Rob Hopping (15-13, 15-14, 15-11) and Tony Prentice (15-12, 15-12, 15-11) by 3-0 margins.

Returning from a lengthy lay-off (injuries and pregnancy), Bermuda national team player Liz Martin had to draw on all of her reserves to muster a 15-5, 13-15, 15-13, 15-11 win over Phil Barnes in the first round. But she couldn't maintain that form, going down 1-3 (15-6, 10-15, 9-15, 10-15) to John Stout in the second round.

In Division Three, Julie Greaves countered the aggressive style of Dan Matthews as she scored yet another victory for the women, 15-14, 14-15, 15-9, 15-7.
