Lagniappe tops on corrected time
Daytona TransAt Race as his 1990 Creelock 44 Lagniappe was able to hold on for the top prize.
Lagniappe , hailing from Dalton, Georgia, nipped Bananas and Gene Boyd by less than an hour with corrected times of 116 hours, five minutes and two seconds and 116:59:05 respectively.
In fact it was a double dose of celebration for Braud as he also seized the Class `C' prize after coming in sixth overall in his cutter. Exile (Jeff Welch) and Glory Days (Wayne Lee) were second and third among the six boats in this class.
Line honours had already gone to Pipe Dream , skippered by Scott Piper. But the Floridian could only watch as he plummeted down the overall standings and in the end his effort was only good enough for ninth overall on corrected time and fifth in Class `A'.
Bananas emerged as the Class `A' champion followed by Harry Hardesty's Gitana and Scirocco , captained by John Martin.
In the slower Class `D' it was Cloud Nine (Ben Cornelius) an easy winner over Liquid Asset (Kevin Coon) and Ecume (Leonard Stanley).
Fourteen of the 15 boats that started managed to finish the race with Kennith Geiler's 1979 Transworld 41 Carreau the final boat across the line in an elapsed time of 205:55:00.
The remaining entry, La Padolu , dropped out after encountering mechanical problems.
