as Stoke City began their pre-season tour of Iceland with a 1-1 draw against Akranes.

Lightbourne broke the deadlock after 29 minutes when he fired in a shot from 10 yards following a through ball from Paul Connor. Four minutes after the break Akranes equalised to earn a draw.

Stoke also drew their second match on Sunday 1-1 with Akueryri and were due to play their final match on the trip on Monday night. The club have a huge following in Iceland following the Icelandic takeover at Stoke last season which brought Gudjon Thordarson to the club as manager.

Recent signing Tony Dorigo, a former England international defender, was in the Stoke 20-man tour party for the Iceland trip, but Lightbourne's strike partner and last season's top scorer, Peter Thorne, was forced to stay at home because of a knee injury.

Thorne picked up the injury in the play-off match against Gillingham and he faces an operation on the knee in the near future in a bid to remove floating bone.

Trialists Tokia Russell and Stephen Astwood were in the Preston North End team which went down 2-1 to semi-professional team Burscough on Monday night.

The Preston team was made up of youth players, trialists and young professionals, with Russell playing the entire match and Astwood substituted.

The game was the last before the club go off on their first tour of the pre-season, a trip to Scotland.
