Local pros begin match play tourney
Pearman and Kim Swan, tee off at Ocean View this morning in the qualifying round of the annual PGA Lobster Pot Matchplay Championships.
Defending champion Pearman will be the hot favourite, particularly on his home course, but is expected to be challenged by the likes of Swan and Riddell's Bay assistant pro Derrick Douglas, who is reserve for the World Cup team, having finished third in the PGA points standings.
Following today's round, match play begins tomorrow, continuing with the semi-finals on Wednesday and the final on Thursday.
Fraser Hunt made the biggest last round move among Bermuda's junior golfers at the Niagara Junior Open which finished at the Whirlpool Golf Club in Niagara Falls, Ontario on Friday.
Hunt fired a 78 to finish fourth in the boys 12-15 division on 239 -- ten shots behind winner Michael Lindberg of Mississauga who carded a 75.
Of the other Island players, Oliver Pitcher was sixth on 241, Chris Smith seventh on 245 and Chris Brough eighth on 246.
Eric West completed the 54 holes on 250, Mark Robinson and Matthew Durrant on 252, Ryan Mello on 256 and Ravi Pachai on 269.
In the boys' 16-18 group, Neil Fenton who had climbed to second after the second round, faltered at the last hurdle, shooting 84 to drop to 14th. Chaka DeSilva also slipped with an 82 to tie for 19th on 237. Rajesh Pachai finished on 247.
Among the girls, Jennifer Spurling won her age group but finished second overall to Canada's Sarah Thompson, carding a final day 84.
