Nationals to host their first Camel Cup match
make their first appearance when the popular competition is held over the weekend of May 6 and 7.
And for the first time since 1991 the final will not be played at Lord's as Somerset, the only other team to host the final since the competition became the Camel Cup in '90, will host the showpiece.
Over the years St. David's has confirmed itself as the most popular venue for the final, having hosted the last three and five of the last six -- the only exception being in 1991 when Somerset played hosts.
Defending champions Bailey's Bay, St. George's, Devonshire and Western Stars have made the most appearances in the Camel Cup, with Stars having played in the last five finals (finally winning it for the first time at their fourth attempt in '93 before losing to Bay last year).
Stars, however, failed to finish in the top four last season and thus have not qualified for the Camel Cup. Their place is being taken by a Cleveland team that will make its debut on May 6 when they host St. George's at St. John's Field. Holders Bay, who won the cup for the first time last year, meet Devonshire Rec. in the other semi-final the same day at Nationals, with the two winners travelling to Somerset the following day for the final as the first trophy of the season goes up for grabs.
There will be a registration meeting for all Cleveland youth players for their Under-11 and Under-17 leagues tomorrow at the club's practice field at 6 p.m.
Youngsters should report to coach Curtis Jackson.
Meanwhile, a meeting for all Cleveland senior cricketers and members will take place on Tuesday at 7.00 at the club.
