OCC I survive Officers despite Frost stunner: Bermuda Shorts

OCC I led 5-2 after seven games as Derron Trott and Barry Rahman defeated Nick Frost and Dave Waltham 25-23, 14-21, 22-20. Trott then followed that up by upsetting Nick Frost 23-21, 22-20 to narrow the lead to 5-4 before Dave Waltham routed Rahman 21-10, 21-9 to clinch victory for the defending champions. Trott won three singles matches for the losers while Frost and Waltham both won two for OCC and Lindo one, as well as assisting Frost in the thrashing of Trott and Rahman 21-8, 21-12. The Centre won by default over BPSA in the other First Division match. In the Second Division, Bermuda College shocked leaders Eastern Stars 6-5 to clinch their first win of the season.

Donavin Seymour and Azeem Pitcher won two each to lead the College team while Earlston Brown won one match and Seymour and Pitcher the first doubles.

The college side led 4-1 before Eastern Stars fought back to lead 5-4. Brown beat Derrick Burrows 21-13, 21-13 to tie the series 5-5. Seymour then defeated Mansfield Smith 21-12, 21-18 to clinch victory for the youngsters. Kevin Lapsley won three games in a losing cause. OCC II defeated Nexgen Ltd 7-4 to move level on eight points with Eastern Stars who will have two regular players -- Lapsley and Perry Swan -- abroad when the teams meet in the next round on January 5.

Chris Fleming won three games for OCC II, including a surprisingly easy victory over formidable Dean Mello 21-13, 21-10. Mello won two games in a losing cause, as did Doug Steele. Trevor Elliott and Jonathan Foggo won a game each in OCC's cause while Fleming spearheaded both doubles wins which were vital to the victory.
