Patton wins by a whisker
divisions in the Bermuda Yachting Association's Sailing Championships in the Great Sound over the weekend.
Patton edged out Paul Fisher by just half a point in a fleet of nine boats which contested the Etchells 22. In the final race, won by Patton, Fisher could only manage fifth.
In the six-boat J24 fleet, Emery retained his title with ease, finishing four and a half points ahead of John Thompson who placed second in the final race to edge out Bob McCutcheon for second overall. The two had been tied entering the last race.
With recently-crowned world champion Penny Simmons as well as Blythe Walker both off the Island, Davis emerged victorious in a hotly-contested IOD class.
Nicky Lewin got off to a great start by winning the opening two races on Saturday in heavy air. Then Charlie Berry sprung a major surprise by posting wins in races three and five in his wooden IOD Seahorse , and inbetween Jordy Walker was first in race four.
That left Davis starting the final race knowing he had to win and have Berry finish back in the fleet in order to clinch overall victory.
He did exactly that with his father, Larry Davis, quietly registering solid finishes throughout to place second overall.
