The Blues actually took an early lead when Dave Bird slotted over his 10th successive goal kick in the 10th minute. But five minutes later, Teachers went ahead with a try from the wily Mike Montgomery. And another well taken try by Peter Rochow, plus a conversion and penalty by Dennis Cherry, gave Teachers a 17-3 lead by half-time.

Police threw everything at their opponents for a 10-minute spell of the second half without success and then the rout continued.

Man of the match Rochow bagged two more tries to complete his hat-trick, while Alvin Harvey, Heath Robinson and Mark Dougherty also went over and the boot of Cherry brought the remainder of the points.

Police won some ball in the scrum and the lineout, but had no-one apart from Gareth Davies and Alan Oliver capable of testing Teachers.

Both sides were hampered by the absence of players on West Indies duty.
