Rangers Fodder for Town

winning steak to five matches when they host struggling Southampton Rangers at St. John's field tomorrow.

Town, after beating second-placed Vasco 3-0 last weekend, are now the division's only unbeaten team, a record that is not expected to change after this weekend.

However, Rangers have had their share of success against the Hornets, having beaten them twice in their relegation season of 1991-92. Rangers won 2-0 at St. John's field and 4-0 at Southampton Oval.

Things have not gone as well for Rangers so far this season, having collected just one point from four league matches so far, which leaves them second from bottom in the standings.

North Village, who moved up to second place with their win over St. George's last weekend, take on fourth-placed Somerset in what is the top match of the day. Both teams have six points as do Boulevard. They are all two behind the leaders.

Home field gives Somerset a slight advantage, otherwise there is little to choose between the teams who both suffered defeat in the semifinals of the Martonmere Cup the last time they played at Somerset.

Boulevard should stay in the hunt when they take on their Lord's landlords, St. David's. St. David's are languishing on the bottom of the standings without a point from four games. There is a silver lining in that dark cloud as Lionel Cann will be available to play soccer for the rest of the season now that he has been axed from the Bermuda cricket squad.

St. George's, who possess the weakest attack in the First Division, were hardest hit by the ban of cricketers playing soccer this week. They will have to do without both Dean Minors and Clay Smith for the next four months, starting from tomorrow's away match against Vasco.

The east-enders have scored just one goal in four outings and, as was the case at this stage last season, have more points than goals. They have lost both previous away matches and would be happy with a point tomorrow at PHC Stadium.

In the other match, Devonshire Colts take on another struggling team, PHC, at Frog Lane. The Zebras' only points so far have come from the recent win over St. George's and they are third from bottom.

Daihatsu Second Division action sees Wolves at home to Hamilton Parish at Devonshire Rec. and second-placed Devonshire Cougars travelling to White Hill to meet Port Royal. In the other matches, Paget are at home to Prospect at Southampton Oval and Social Club entertain BAA at PHC Stadium.
