Rebels survive youth charge

NSC Rebels 4 BCS Panthers 3 The youthful Panthers came within a goal of an upset against the more experienced Rebels.

Rebels were on the scoresheet first with Kirk Edmunds and Simon van de Wegh scoring two quick goals. But Panthers fought back and scored through Chris Chapman before Rebels responded quickly, van de Wegh hitting the target from a short corner move.

The second half saw Rebels score again, this time through David Gutteridge who slotted home after good play by Danny Moniz. That goal stirred something in Panthers and they caught their opponents off guard, netting twice through Andrew Schlebeck and Jerome Overbee. Only solid defending from then on prevented Panthers from equalising.

Police 3 Upstarts 1 Upstarts began well with the returning Alan Gilbertson getting them off the mark.

Gilbertson scored after a bullet of a cross from Martin Murphy. Towards the end of the first half, Police stepped up the pace and scored two goals to put them in the lead.

Police pressure paid off in the second half with a third goal to kill off the match.

Wasps 1 Chameleons 6 An early goal from Steve Moreton got Chameleons off to a good start. Wasps equalised but from then on it was all one-way traffic. Moreton hit his second and there were further goals from Mark Finnegan, Stuart MacKellar and Jonathan Dodd.

Cardinals B 0 Swallows B 3 This was a good performance by Swallows who had many players playing out of position. They opened the scoring after 10 minutes with an excellent goal from Denise Donovan.

Swallows scored a second after a superb run from Jenny Mackintosh, whose pass found Sandy Cramm waiting to slot the ball home. Their third came after a penalty flick which was converted by goalkeeper Kath Griffiths.

Cardinals picked up the pace in the secondhalf and began to attack the Swallows' defence. Michelle Clarke had an excellent half in midfield but the defence proved too good with McKintosh and Annaka Rubidge putting in some great tackles.

Orioles B 5 Swifts B 0 Orioles continue to improve with every game. Georgie Adlam opened the scoring and quickly netted her second.

Cheryl Watts then hit the third as Swifts found it hard to get into the game, hampered by the worsening condition of the pitch.

Orioles fourth was scored by Susie Elton and Zina Jones rounded matters off.

Ali Cameron: hit Canaries' winning goal.
