Redbirds repelled by scoring blitz

superior goal difference over 7-Up Netts and PCC, based on their 52-4 mauling of Warwick Redbirds this past weekend.

Shooter Debbie DeShields could be excused for becoming arm-weary after tossing in 38 goals against a porous and slow-reacting Redbirds defence. Liz Stewart and Vernelle Flood assisted in the carnage with 10 and four goals respectively for AICO.

Redbirds' points were split between Margaret Ramjohn and Lexza Simmons, each with two.

Also in the scoring mood were PCC, who won their second in a row, trouncing winless North Village 45-12.

Rose Richardson (28 goals) and Sheena Maybury (17 goals) led the Pembroke charge, while Village netted through Nicole Jennings (nine) and Nikita Trott (three).

Meanwhile, 7-Up Netts incurred a tougher outing this week after trouncing Olympic Panthers the previous week.

Cardinals showed themselves to be worthwhile opponents and were able to keep the Netts' top guns in check for the most part, but still found the objective of winning elusive, as they scoring difficult.

Netts led at the end of each quarter and eventually triumphed by a score of 29-19. Carolyn Binns tallied 26 of her team's goals with Kim Minors getting the remainder.

Penny Moore and Wenda Godfrey each scored eight for Cardinals, while Nicole DeGraff had three.

Sunday League play witnessed Wolves getting their first victory, but also saw 7-Up Netts further emphasise their superiority with another run-away win.

Division newcomers Cooper and Lines have rapidly become the league's whipping-girls and on Sunday it was Wolves' turn to feast, which they did to the tune of a 40-9 devouring.

Valerie Lee bolstered her shooting percentage by sinking 30 shots, while Christine Cook scored 10. For Cooper and Lines, Elaine Simmons and Carol Mitchell registered five and four goals respectively.

Speaking of scoring, 7-Up Netts have now managed 157 goals for from a mere three matches after their unmerciful 42-19 victimisation of sister squad Netts.

Antoinette Williams knocked down 26 shots and Dawnette Smith 16 for 7-Up Netts.

Other matches had Running Rebels defeat AICO 30-16 and Olympic Panthers beat PCC 29-20.

7-Up Netts head the standings with six points off three wins from as many matches and are trailed by Panthers, who have a game in hand, and Netts and Rebels all with four points.

The Junior Netball League will commence on Saturday, November 13 with a dress parade and Opening Knock-Out tournament.
