the Denton Hurdle Memorial game on Sunday, eking out a narrow 14-12 victory over Teachers.

At half-time, the Rest held a slim 7-5 lead following a converted try from Declan O'Laughlin and a try from Teachers winger Andre Simons.

After the interval, Teachers went ahead through Michael Montgomery who scored from close range and Ross Webber converted.

But the Rest seized the lead for good when skipper Sean Field went over for a try which was also converted.

"It feels good to win two memorial games in a row,'' Field said, alluding to the recent Police triumph over the Rest in the Duckett Memorial game last month.

"I thought it was a good physical game although the second half was marred by the lack of good second phase ball.

"It wasn't pretty but it was a nice win.'' Teachers skipper Alvin Harvey said the presence of former players Derek Hurdle, Scott Correia, Brian Toms, Ron Hook, Patrick McHugh and Richard Raistrick in their line-up had added a special flavour to the event.

"Scott played a solid half and a quarter and he gave his all,'' Harvey said.

In second team action on Saturday, Teachers defeated Mariners 25-24 while Police edged Renegades 22-14.
