to become the fifth administrative assistant of the Bermuda Football Association.

Sabir replaced fired Joe L. Brown, who has sought legal advice over his dismissal, and will begin his new job on June 15.

The news of the appointment was made at a press conference yesterday, which was attended by Sabir and BFA president Charlie Marshall.

"We selected a small sub-committee of the association with the responsibility of redefining the job description of the administrative assistant's position and advertising and interviewing the applicants for this particular position,'' said Marshall.

"This has been accomplished and the committee has made a recommendation to the executive committee which has been accepted and we are very happy here today to report, after quite a number of applicants which boiled down to the last four which I understand from the committee was a very difficult choice to make, that David Sabir has been appointed to be the new administrative assistant of the Bermuda Football Association.'' Sabir, who also held the position of president of the Bermuda Bicycle Association in 1990, attended Berkeley Institute and obtained GCE `O' levels with credits in English Language, Art, History and Biology. He went to Howard Academy in Washington, D.C. on a soccer scholarship a decade ago and graduated in 1987 with a bachelor's degree in Business Management and Finance.

Sabir, 30, has been involved in his own business ventures, having previously owned and managed Winner's Edge bicycle shop. To a sport which has given him so many opportunities, Sabir says he wants to give something back.

"It's quite obvious I'm very excited about this appointment,'' he said yesterday. "As you know I am no longer an active soccer player in Bermuda but have benefitted immensely from my involvement in the sport of soccer.

"My objective as the new administrator of the Bermuda Football Association would be to continue the improvement and/or the successful development of the sport, whether dealing with the business community, the clubs, players, fans or coaches.

"It is my intention to see that the sport of soccer continues to grow and that we will continue to put out not only great soccer players but excellent members of Bermuda's society.'' Added Sabir: "It's quite apparent that we need to instill a level of pride in our young soccer players, not only to become great soccer players but we want to be able to have them assimilate themselves in society and be productive members outside the soccer pitch.'' Sabir said he knew right away he wanted the job when he saw it advertised. It has proven to be one of the most difficult jobs in soccer, but Sabir is looking forward to the challenge.

"It didn't take very much time to be convinced,'' he said. "As you get more and more involved in the dynamics of the sport it was always in the back of my mind to have that opportunity to not just be a part of the playing side of soccer but to get deeply involved with the administration side of the sport as well.'' Monday is the deadline for transfers for the 1993-94 season.
