Six in a row for Sterritt

blustery conditions on Sunday morning, as he clocked up his sixth consecutive victory in the Mountain Bike Cross Country Open category.

The weather kept a number of competitors at home, but 25 riders still turned up to take part in the Ferry Reach Park series.

The closest battle for maximum points was in the junior 15-16s where just 21 seconds separated Nick Taylor, Travaughn Smith and Jean-Nicolas Bertrand, who finished first, second and third respectively, Taylor in a fast time of 31:34.

Chris Conway placed fourth, less than a minute behind Bertrand, and remains in a close race for the series title along with Taylor, Smith and Mark Morrison.

In the Open category, Brian Steinhoff seemed to benefit from a week off the bike. He had Peter Matcham on his back wheel for the entire race but with less than half a lap to go, made his move on the downhill section of the course, opening just enough of a gap to hold on for second place in a time of 45:00.

Sterritt was well ahead in a time of 40.41 but will miss the next two weekend races as he will be off the Island.

Matcham finished 11 seconds adrift of Steinhoff, while Paul Livingstone picked up valuable points, coming in fourth in 46:23.

Paul Madeiros' chances of a clean sweep in the veterans' division were scotched when he failed to make the start line, allowing Martin Bolton and Ian Fox to gain ground.

Sheila Ruse and Karen Madeiros continued their battle for the ladies' title but Ruse crashed out of the race on the second lap and was unable to finish.

Madeiros, after tending to a mechanical problem, went on to win in a time of 40:20.

James Adams had a great race in the junior 13-14s, reversing his result from the previous week by coming in first, around two minutes ahead of second placed Adam Petty, in a time of 33:47. Geoffrey Smith was third in 37:02 with Coyatito Smith finishing fourth in 39:24.

Andre Bassett, meanwhile, is still waiting for more novice riders to come out and give him a run for his money. He finished his five laps in 39:24.

Tim Fox seems to get stronger as the season gets longer, taking another victory in the 10 and under category. His time of 21:02 put him three and a half minutes ahead of Ricky Sousa Jr with Marc Smith in third in 26:35.

Aaron Fenn did well to brave the elements and finished in 26:34 to take the junior 11-12 category.

CAISEY CLAIMS CLEAN SWEEP SCR Caisey claims clean sweep Shannon Caisey won all of his five races to sweep both the Mini Stock and Grand Prix Heavyweight classes in the Bermuda Motorcycle Roadracing Club meet at Southside on Sunday.

David Jones took the honours in the Stock/Lightweight class, winning the first race and taking third in the second and Jones also won in the Scooters category, finishing first in both races.

In the second scooter race, there was a pile-up at the first corner. Mark Lightbourne went down on the surface made slippery by showers and sparked a domino effect as the three riders behind him all came off as they tried to avoid him. The race was restarted without Lightbourne and Jones won, trailed by Mark Tucker.
