Soccer coaches association could help game -- Sabir
the formation of a coaching association could be a step in the right direction and could aid the overall development of soccer on the Island.
Stressing that the view expressed was his personal opinion and did not represent that of the BFA, Sabir said: "In principle I think it could be a good idea.
"It would be a forum by which our local coaches can get together and discuss ideas for the future development of their skills and knowledge of the sport that will ultimately benefit participating individuals in football.
"I think it can also be a great idea if the intent is to put some sort of responsibility on coaches to assist and work along with the association to improve standards.'' Sabir added that he felt that a coaching association was something that should be strongly considered, but wavered when asked if such an group might be considered for affiliation with the BFA.
He noted that all the information received had come through the media, that there was no knowledge of the structure such a body would take and that nothing formal had yet been received by the BFA.
"That's something the association would have to discuss,'' he said. "The grounds for affiliation may not be necessary, but that is something to be taken up by the executive committee at the appropriate time.'' Spokesman for the proposed group of coaches, Richard Knight on Tuesday said that about 15 people had attended a meeting at Police Recreation Club where "a lot of positive discussion'' took place.
Knight added that a second meeting was planned at which time it was hoped a constitution could be adopted and an election of officers take place.
