Sound Long Distance Swimathon held in Harrington Sound.

Insley, one third of the team that recently won the Bermuda Team Triathlon, triumphed easily over the competition at the 10-kilometre distance, clocking two hours, 17 minutes, 32 seconds, to lead second place finisher Ian Maule, who was timed in 2:33:28.

Michel Bouchard was third, but had the same time as Maule.

Taking female honours was Annette Bosch (2:39:44), followed by Alicia Mullan (2:48:26) and Sarah Manuel (2:50:08).

The only junior (12 and under) to take part was Laura Farge who produced a creditable time of 3:13:04.

Also occurring were three other races, which took competitors over shorter distances -- seven and a quarter kilometres, four kilometres, two kilometres.

Rising star Matthew Hammond took top honours in the seven-and-a quarter kilometre event.

Hammond got the nod, but he, along with Trevor Nelson and Craig Ferguson, all received the same time of 1:59:20.

First female was Julia Hawley (2:21:28) followed by Lucy Wozniak (2:28:04) and Tamika Williams (2:28:04).

Paul Oliver (1:07:24) captured the four kilometre race ahead of Andrew Smith (1:09:00) and Ronald Cowen (1:10:51). Karen Meyer (1:10:58) was the first woman across the line.

Newlyweds Michael and Chris Cash "cashed in'' among those taking in the shortest distance as they placed one, two, with Michael first in 30:09 and his wife only a second slower.

Trevor Hedges was third in 32:24.

The events served as a means to raise money for charity and had the Boy Scout/Girl Guide campground facility at Hog Bay as the beneficiary this year.

POOL POO Swinging Doors I and Robin Hood I remain the only unbeaten teams after four weeks of play in the Pool League.

Gary Bascome and Terrence Parsons fashioned perfect 50's to lead Spinning Wheel to a 222-140 thrashing of Vasco II. Bascome now leads the individual standings with a point average of 9.15.

Paul Mathias's 50, which included three 10-0 run-outs, sparked Robin Hood I to a 204-161 win over Frog & Onion. Freya Robinson scored 42 to move into second place among women players.

Queens and Robin Hood II each triumphed to stay within one game of the league leaders. Greg Falzone (50) and Gary Skinner (47) led Queens to an easy 199-156 romp over Swinging Doors II. Robin Hood II grabbed a 198-170 win over War Vets II.

In the other match, Cliff Allison scored 47 in Vasco III's narrow 203-197 victory over War Vets I. Coleen Lewis scored 46 for War Vets which puts her among the league's top women players.

BOWLING BOW Just three-and-a-half points separate the top six teams in the Fishbowl League following action last week at Warwick Lanes.

Mackerel continue to head the standings based on their latest 3-1 triumph against Piranhas, that had Brenda Burrows distinguishing herself with a women's high game of 200.

One point back are Snappers, who split the points 2-2 in their encounter with with Rockfish.

Ann Mitchell registered the women's top game and series, 221 and 563, for Snappers, but Bruce Benevides and Lydia Mullin answered the challenge for Rockfish, tallying 523 and 495 series respectively.

Meanwhile, another dogfight ensued between Wahoo and Dolphins that witnessed the former emerging on top with a 3-1 triumph.

Even Dwayne Lewis' top game of 237 could not halt the charge of Wahoo, who were spearheaded by Doug Hines (542 series) with support from Cathee Tumbridge (514) and Sylvia O'Connor (513).

In other matches Porgies downed Porgies 3-1, Marlins defeated Hinds 3-1, Barracuda won 3-1 over Cow Pollies and Sharks drew 2-2 against Angel Fish.
