their league woes when they clash in the Friendship Trophy at BAA field tonight (9 p.m.).

Admittedly this is no glamour match-up by any stretch, but if a previous meeting and this past weekend's results are indicators one thing should be guaranteed... goals.

Vasco sent up an early smoke screen in recording two victories from three matches to start the season, including a 5-2 triumph over the Islanders, but have since had that cloak of invincibility removed.

St. David's, on the other hand, were exposed as fraudulent members of the top flight from the outset as attested by their winless record.

Vasco's Dennis Brown and newlywed Donovan Livingston missed Sunday's game against Somerset and the Trojans took advantage to run out 3-0 victors.

Goalkeeper Keenan Tucker has been adequate between the `sticks', but needs more protection from the men in front of him, which means that centre-backs Paul Towlson and Karl Roberts -- if Brown and Livingston remain absent -- along with the full-backs have some belt-tightening to do.

In attack, the forward tandem of Ricky Mallory and Irving Burgess have hit a barren patch, having scored just a single goal since October 17, and that type of record will not win many matches.

On Sunday, St. David's showed signs of improvement, battling Dandy Town tooth and nail before succumbing 3-2 when they could have just as easily shared the spoils.

Lionel Cann and James Pace lead a cast of unknowns from which not much is expected.

The adage is that `anything can happen in cup games' where even struggling teams sometimes rise to the top...in this instance one will.

The game is due to be preceded by a Second Division Shield match pitting Paget against Wolves (7 p.m.).

The Bermuda Football Association's new technical director Burkhard Ziese of Germany is due to arrive in Bermuda today to take up the $50,000 per year post.

Ziese has a three-year contract to oversee the sport and implement various programmes among clubs and in the school system.
