St.George's and Cuts do battle again

Cuts will already have met three times after this weekend as they square off twice at Wellington Oval today and tomorrow.

Cuts will be gunning for revenge, having been beaten by St. George's in the semi-finals of the Camel Cup recently.

But something will be at stake for both teams, with St. George's putting their Knockout title on the line for the first time today, while tomorrow Cuts will be aiming to hold onto the top spot in the Premier Division Overs competition.

Earlier this month St. George's and Cuts produced an exciting Camel Cup match at Devonshire Rec. and things could be just as close at Wellington Oval.

Captain Clay Smith carried the St.George's team last weekend with five wickets and 51 not out while Brian Gibbons of Willow Cuts has proven to be one of the best signings so far, having taken 15 wickets already since his move from Somerset Bridge.

In the Premier Division both teams are actually tied on points, with only strike rate separating them.

There are a total of eight knockout matches today, with Police at home to improving Southampton Rangers and St. David's taking on Western Stars at Lord's. This will be their second meeting of the season and Stars should again be firm favourites.

PHC take on Flatts at Somerset while Devonshire and Somerset square off again, this time at the Rec. Bailey's Bay entertain neighbours Hamilton Parish while Warwick take on Somerset Bridge at Southampton Oval and Cleveland, last year's beaten finalists, travel to Nationals to meet Social Club.

The teams will be back in action tomorrow morning with Bailey's Bay and Western Stars, third and fourth in the Open standings, looking to close the gap on the top two.

Stars are at home to Southampton Rangers, unbeaten since the opening day of the season, while Bay take on Eastern Counties neighbours, St. David's, at Sea Breeze Oval.

In the other match PHC host Police at White Hill. Both teams are still seeking their first wins of the season, but Police can also boast of not having been beaten, following three draws.
