Swimmers up medals count

the Latin American and Caribbean Masters Swimming Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, yesterday.

Chris Smith was the star performer, adding two more pieces of hardware to his collection with a gold in the 200 individual medley and silver in the 100 freestyle. Smith secured times of 3:46.48 and 1:19.35 in his respective events.

Margaret Marshall and Chris Cash both picked up silvers, Cash coming home in the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:50.29 while Marshall finished in 5:15.32 in the 200 butterfly.

There were also bronzes for Sara Manuel, in the 400 freestyle and Colleen Nelson in 100 freestyle. Manuel completed the course in 5:32.63 while Nelson clocked 1:21.18.

Cancer victim Duncan Newby followed up his fourth place in the 800 free with another fourth in the 1500 free and sixth places in the 400 and 100 free.

The meet concludes with a 3K open water swim today, with Bermuda hoping to add to their medals tally. They currently stand 14th out of 71 teams competing in the competition.
