Tailenders take IYT to victory
IYT 107-9 The International Youth Team had to pull out all the stops to clinch their second First Division Open victory of the season, beating short-handed Hamilton Parish by just one wicket on Saturday at Sea Breeze Oval.
Parish paid the price for showing up with only eight players as the Youth Team dismissed them for just 105. Off-spinner Travis Smith claimed four for 41 from 13.4 unchanged overs and Cooleridge Durham took two for 27.
High man for Parish was Phillip Burgess with 31 including three fours and two sixes while Phillip Bailey scored 20 in the tailend as the innings caved in.
However, the Youth Team did not have things all their own way, despite 33 off six boundaries from opener Chris Foggo. He watched four partners go with just 45 on the board before he was fifth out when the score was 54.
It was a shaky period for the Youth Team as three more wickets went down with just 79 scored before the match was saved by a partnership of 22 for the ninth wicket between Ian Armstrong (13 not out) and Davon Govia (10).
They carried the score from 79 to 101 and when Govia departed -- the last of Chris Caisey's six victims -- it was left to Armstrong and Torie Hollis to score the final six runs for victory.
Caisey, hit for two successive fours by Foggo in his first over, bounced back to claim six for 50 from 20 unchanged overs while Philip Bailey took three for 46 off 18 as Parish fought to the end.
Flatts 140 PHC 110 Nine-man Flatts showed they could win even without a full team when they stopped PHC by 30 runs in this rescheduled first round Knockout match at Somerset on Saturday.
Flatts' total of 140 proved to be enough as PHC could only manage 110 in reply despite being 48-1 at one stage. High men for PHC were Kevin Dill and Daran Davis with 20 apiece while Cal Waldron scored 17.
Gerald Sims claimed four for 20 to lead the Flatts bowlers while Kevin Hurdle, Gershon Gibbons and Brandon Woolridge all claimed two wickets.
Gibbons led the Flatts batting with 22 while Kevin Hurdle and Dapo Frederick both scored 19. Captain Cal Waldron took four for 22 for PHC while Lyle Millett, Neil Anglin and J.Butler all took two wickets.
PHC 137 St. David's 141-7 PHC's batting let them down again on Sunday in the opening round of Overs competition, losing by three wickets to St. David's at Lord's.
PHC were poised for a big total after being 83-2 at one stage. But their middle order slumped badly, with four wickets going down for just one run to be 84-6 as St. David's swung the match in their favour through some penetrative spin bowling.
Kameron Fox engineered the callapse, taking four for 10 from just 3.5 overs while Del Hollis claimed three for eight off 10 overs with five maidens.
Braxton Stowe was high man for PHC with 30 while Antoine Greene scored 21 and Alfred Carter 19.
Despite the modest target, St. David's lost their way too, falling to 39-5 before a stand of 59 for the sixth wicket between Hollis and Fox kept PHC at bay. And when 35 more came for the seventh wicket between Fox and Landro Minors an impressive fightback had been completed.
Hollis scored 35, Fox 25 not out and Minors 16. Opener Eddie Lamb scored 24.
Three PHC bowlers, Millett, Shoron Hunt and Anglin each took two wickets.
Ham. Parish 130 Flatts 132-5 Hamilton Parish, this time fielding 10 men, went down to Flatts by five wickets at Sea Breeze Oval on Sunday.
Parish got off to a promising start as captain Dennis Trott (31) and David Scraders (25) put on 55 for the first wicket. However, three wickets went down cheaply after the pair were separated as the score then read 63-4.
Chris Caisey offered some resistance in the middle order with 23 as Gerald Sims claimed five for 26 from nine overs and Kevin Hurdle two for 34.
Flatts were led by Troy Dean's 36 as they reached their target in 39 overs.
Somerset 156 Social Club 86 Social Club completed a losing weekend, going down by 70 runs to Somerset at Somerset Cricket Club.
Jaymo Durham claimed six for 36 from 10 overs and Kevin Bean three for 36 as Somerset were restricted to 156, with Gladwin Ingham leading the way with 50 off 60 balls in 75 minutes. He hit seven fours. Carl Furbert added 29 in the tail-end.
E.Benjamin was top bat for Social Club with 29 while captain Webster Mills scored 15. Sidney Simmons took four for 18 from nine overs and Winston Reid three for 15 from 10. Furbert finished with two for 12 from six overs with the new ball.
